Waterproofing Your Drywall Should be Mandatory

When it comes to keeping your home dry from rainy weather and moisture, you are going to want to ensure that your drywall is properly waterproofed, otherwise you could run into mold problems. When your drywall is not properly waterproofed, mold can grow on the insulation behind the drywall, as well as directly on the drywall. Once this happens, mold can easily spread to other areas of the home, which is a huge cause for concern since mold can cause health problems. You can have your existing drywall waterproofed by Duggin Services through their product application waterproofing systems.

Can I Waterproof My Drywall?

If you decide that you do not want to hire a professional, you can choose to look into waterproofing your drywall. If you choose this route, you are going to need several different materials including:

  • Paint rollers and tray,
  • Oil waterproofing primer (or latex),
  • A clean cloth,
  • Paint brushes for touch-ups,
  • Oil/latex waterproof paint.

Once you have these items, you can begin by cleaning the drywall with a cloth or shop vac. This is a must as you need to get rid of any dust that might interfere with the primer and paint adhesion. Of course, you will need to let the drywall dry once you have cleaned it off. When the drywall has properly dried, you can then using the waterproof primer that you bought to apply a thin even coat onto the drywall. Use a paintbrush for harder to reach areas such as corners. Allow the primer to dry and then repeat the above step with the desired paint. Make sure to match oil primer with oil paint, and latex with latex.
