Waterproofing Your Drywall Should be Mandatory

When it comes to keeping your home dry from rainy weather and moisture, you are going to want to ensure that your drywall is properly waterproofed, otherwise you could run into mold problems. When your drywall is not properly waterproofed, mold can grow on the insulation behind the drywall, as well as directly on the drywall. Once this happens, mold can easily spread to other areas of the home, which is a huge cause for concern since mold can cause health problems. You can have your existing drywall waterproofed by Duggin Services through their product application waterproofing systems.

Can I Waterproof My Drywall?

If you decide that you do not want to hire a professional, you can choose to look into waterproofing your drywall. If you choose this route, you are going to need several different materials including:

  • Paint rollers and tray,
  • Oil waterproofing primer (or latex),
  • A clean cloth,
  • Paint brushes for touch-ups,
  • Oil/latex waterproof paint.

Once you have these items, you can begin by cleaning the drywall with a cloth or shop vac. This is a must as you need to get rid of any dust that might interfere with the primer and paint adhesion. Of course, you will need to let the drywall dry once you have cleaned it off. When the drywall has properly dried, you can then using the waterproof primer that you bought to apply a thin even coat onto the drywall. Use a paintbrush for harder to reach areas such as corners. Allow the primer to dry and then repeat the above step with the desired paint. Make sure to match oil primer with oil paint, and latex with latex.

Exterior Makeovers for Businesses

We all know how important customer perceptions are as they relate to business. If a customer perceives a business to be old, outdated, or unsafe, customers will most likely take their business elsewhere. Often, to prevent that from happening, a company will renovate the interior and exterior of a building, but would that renovation be considered complete if the parking lot or landscape was less than perfect? Fortunately, these projects will help unify the remodeled appearance and present an attractive first impression.

To get the best local asphalt construction, it is ideal to work with a company who is highly experienced working with all sized businesses. They will work closely with owners to design the most effective parking structure or rehabilitate and repave their current layout. A quality company will not only recommend a repaving or resurfacing job, but they will also inform their customers how they can get the greatest longevity from the new asphalt. One of the best technologies to accomplish this uses asphalt sealcoat.

Before any work begins, estimates are always given. It is important to know though that the lowest estimate is not always the best. Longevity of a company, customer testimonials and references, warranties and included post-application services, and a thorough industry knowledge help separate quality asphalt providers from competitors; providing your business with the reassurance knowing renovation dollars will be well spent.

When Should You Hire a Roofer?

Your house’s roof generally isn’t at the forefront of your mind. If you’ve got a bit of money set aside for house renovations, there are probably interior changes you want to make, or perhaps you think it’s time to repaint your house’s siding. However, the last thing you want is to need emergency roof work done because you neglected to hire a roofer earlier.

Ask the Expert

When hiring a roofing contractor, it’s best to rely on his expert opinion. If a storm might have caused damage, contact a roofer immediately. Otherwise, while new roofs might need an inspection only once every five years, older roofs require inspection more often because they’re more likely to wear down. It depends on the material of your roof as well, and whether or not you spot any missing shingles, leaks or other indications that you might need a new roof. Plus, a roofer has the equipment and training to safely spot any potential problems you might not have noticed from the ground.

Since the best roofers offer free estimates, there’s no reason not to hire one if it’s been a while since you’ve last had your roof inspected or if you otherwise suspect there’s an issue. Schedule your inspection today.

What to Expect from a Roof Inspection

The roof is one of the most important parts of your home. It shields you, your loved ones and your valuables from the weather, keeping all safe and protected. In order to continue providing you with protection, the roof needs to be in good condition; however, since it is exposed to so many elements, it can easily become damaged. For that reason, having your roof inspected annually is a wise idea.

If you’ve never had one before, here’s a look at what you can expect during roof inspections:

  • A roof inspector will examine the overall appearance of the roof, including its interior and its exterior. Doing so will indicate if there are any signs of deterioration or damage.
  • The ceiling will be checked for signs of leaks or cracks.
  • The condition of the gutters, drains, chimney, vents and fascia will be examined.
  • If you have skylights, they will be inspected to ensure that there isn’t any problem with leakage.
  • The condition of the shingles will be examined to see if they are that are broken, curled or missing.
  • Flashing points will be checked to see if they are damaged or missing.
